CO2 is safe and effective.  It’s as natural as the air we exhale.  Most cleaners use a chemical called PERC (perchloroethylene), a known groundwater contaminant and a suspected carcinogen.  Liquid CO2, on the other hand, is non-hazardous and non-flammable.

Consumer studies rate CO2 as the best dry-cleaning method on the market.  Fabrics are cleaned without heat or harsh chemicals and thus keep their true colors, feel softer and last longer.

Our dry-cleaning process uses naturally-occurring and reclaimed CO2 captured and recycled from other industries.  Under pressure, CO2 becomes an odorless, non-toxic liquid with unparalleled cleaning characteristics.  We don’t create any more CO2, so the process does not contribute to global warming.  Other alternatives to PERC are available but, unlike ours, they still use solvents manufactured by chemical companies such as petroleum-, silicon- or glycol ether-based solutions.  Our chemical-free CO2 process is what makes Blue Sky Cleaners green like no other.

Blue Sky Cleaners is the only 100%-toxin-free, truly-green dry cleaner in Seattle.  Most other dry cleaners use toxic chemical substances, most often PERC, as their primary cleaning solvent.  PERC has been banned in California.  New York, Texas and Massachusetts are considering the banning of PERC as well.  A few self-proclaimed “environmental” cleaners use a chemical solvent called GreenEarth, but even that solvent is a silicone-based product that is combustible and potentially carcinogenic.  In fact, GreenEarth has been shown to cause cancer in rats and affect liver function in human studies.
